Remembrance Day Parade Information

10/11/2022

Tomorrow, 103 squadron will be participating in the annual Remembrance Day ceremony, marching to and from the armoury to the cenotaph, and parading with the primary reserve, fire and police members, and other cadet units. This is the first time since 2019 we have done so, so here are some tips to keep in mind:
  • Attendance is encouraged but not mandatory. Although participation is part of the cadet curriculum, parading in this event can be challenging for some cadets. If you are not confident in your ability to march for the distance required or to stand in place for 45–60 minutes, you are excused. Please fill in an absence form if you won’t be attending, and consider going to the cenotaph to view the ceremony in the public audience.
  • It will be cold, and standing for long periods in this weather can be uncomfortable if you are not prepared. Wear layers, including long underwear or tights, and your issued cadet parka. If you do not have a parka, a civilian jacket in a dark colour is acceptable. Wear black gloves.
  • A proper breakfast will improve your ability to get through the parade significantly. Don’t overdo it, but definitely don’t skip your breakfast! Avoid having a lot of milk for breakfast.
  • When marching, concentrate on swinging your arms to shoulder level in time with the drum and the other members of your flight. It is much easier to stay in step this way. Similarly, when marking time bring your legs up so your thighs are parallel to the ground.
  • Expect to stand around for quite a while. There are a lot of participants in this parade and a certain amount of waiting is inevitable. If you are standing easy, take the opportunity to move and stretch. Keep your knees unlocked during parts of the ceremony when we are standing at ease or attention.
Fall-in is in front of the blue cadet building (next to the armoury) at 0830h and dismissal at approximately 1200h at the same place. Dress is C1/parka, with black gloves. Cadets who haven’t been issued a uniform should wear black trousers and shoes, and a dark jacket.
See you tomorrow morning!
